About Global Pulse

An educational project for InfoEducație

Project info
What is Global Pulse?

An educational Planetary Intelligence platform that aggregates public global data — news, earthquakes, weather, alerts, and country indicators — into one polished interface with LIVE / CACHED / DEMO labels.

The problem it solves

Public data exists across many fragmented APIs. Global Pulse shows how a thoughtful UI can turn raw feeds into glanceable, transparent insight for learning and demos.

Target users

Students, educators, hobbyists in geopolitics, climate or seismology, and anyone curious about live world data.

Technologies used

React 19, TypeScript, Vite, TanStack Start / Router / Query, Tailwind CSS, Mapbox GL, Recharts, XYFlow, Radix UI, Framer Motion, Nitro, Vercel, Supabase (Auth + PostgreSQL + RLS).

APIs used

GNews, USGS, OpenWeather, REST Countries, Mapbox, Google Gemini, ACLED, NASA FIRMS, GDACS, GDELT, ReliefWeb, RSS — accessed via server proxies so keys stay off the client.

Supabase integration

Auth (email, Google, GitHub) and per-user persistence: collections, saved articles, reading history, watchlists, preferences. Row Level Security isolates data with user_id = auth.uid(). Schema lives in supabase/migrations/.

Why the map matters

A Mapbox GL globe gives spatial context to seismic, intelligence, and alert data — a core pattern of modern monitoring dashboards.

Educational value

Demonstrates async data fetching, error/loading/empty states, charting, geospatial visualization, SSR/API routes, AI grounding, and database CRUD with RLS — common topics in modern web courses.

Authors

Future improvements

Richer real-time push notifications, satellite imagery overlays, forecast charts, and deeper multi-source correlation explanations.

Data limitations

Free public APIs may rate-limit or lag; demo data is clearly labeled. This is not an operational intelligence tool.

Privacy and ethics

Cloud saves require sign-in. Feedback is optional. Personal workspace data is isolated per user via RLS. Guests can browse public dashboards without an account.
